Dental implants are titanium screws that are surgically inserted into the bone of the jaw and replace the root of the tooth. They can replace an individual tooth, multiple teeth or are used to stabilize an entire denture.

RECOMMENDATION: Dental implants can be inserted immediately after the tooth extraction, which greatly shortens medical care time and simultaneously improves treatment outcome due to less bone loss. We usually discuss this option at the check-up, so it is advisable to consider implant treatment before teeth removal.

The successful completion of dental implant treatment takes 3 to 6 months - from surgical insertion of the dental implant to the final placement of a new crown on the implant. In the meantime, we provide temporary prosthetics which protect the wound and allow a normal life.

The individual treatment of every patient with whom we make the plan of implantation is very important.

Surgery related to implantology:

  • Implant placement
  • Uncovering of the implant and inserting healing abutment
  • All forms of bone augmentation
  • Sinus lift or sinus floor elevation procedures
  • Mandibular nerve transposition (lateralization technique)
  • Treatment of implant-related inflammation (periimplantitis)

Dental implant treatment – the procedure

RECOMMENDATION: If you intend to replace the extracted tooth with a dental implant, it is advisable to treat the wound with L-PRF plugs for faster healing and better bone regeneration, so consult with your dentist before surgery.

It takes 6-8 weeks from the tooth removal to the implant placement. The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthesia.

With a small surgical incision, we uncover the underlying bone. Using special instruments and drills we drill a hole into the bone into which then the implant is inserted. Finally, we close the mucosa with sutures. When the bone volume is not sufficient for successful implant placement, bone grafting is required. Larger bone defects, however, require an additional surgical procedure used to prepare the bone tissue for implant placement in the next phase.

The stitches are removed after a week.

In most cases, the healing abutment (sulcus former) is inserted into the implant immediately, but when this is not possible, this procedure is performed after two to three months.

The course of healing

After the procedure, a mild swelling will usually occur, depending on the extent of the surgery. Swelling could tend to increase over the first 72 hours and then slowly resolve in the first week. Moderate pain is usually present for two to three days. It can be relieved with painkillers we provide after the procedure.

Implant treatment may include more than one surgical procedure. First, we make detailed examination and present the treatment plan together with expected costs. Some of the prices can be found here.
